Tree Hunting

This past weekend we went Christmas tree hunting. We knew it would be a year we would have to settle for a smaller, not as full tree due to the extreme drought we have had. However, I did not expect to go to 2 different farms to find nothing and stopping at Lowe’s to buy a pre cut tree. In all my life of having a real tree I have never had a real tree that my family did not cut down on their own. So this is a first for me. We have a beautiful tree with lots of character.

On the wagon at farm #1. it was cold and so windy!

Our Lowe’s Tree!

And here is the finished product. So Jason had to leave early Monday morning…we got our tree Sunday and so we did not have time to put lights on the tree before he left. He is usually the tree lighter. Looking at this picture i see i am not real good at it…I see dark spots…

Ok so look really hard, our tree has arms. (middle left and top right) As I was fluffy it and un-smashing it I found bent branches I pulled out. I thought it would help relax the smooshed tree but turns out they were long branches. I have chosen not to cut them off. I quite like the character of the tree, it has personality and matches our crazy family. I think I should have wrapped lights around the arms too.

I did not put all the ornaments on the tree. It is shorter and skinner than we usually get and it just wasn’t the same to decorate it without Jason.

We had to buy all new lights for the tree this year. Not bad considering we have use the same lights since our first Christmas, 13 years ago. However, the lights I use for the garland for the rest of the house are in sad state. last night half a strand went out so I need to get that replaced. I just do not have the patience to fix the lights like my dad did. I know he did it more out of necessity and I really should to but it frustrates the heck out of me. Besides I have 2 new light sets we did not use on the tree.

The winter weather looks to arrive here tonight and it will be a cold, wet weekend. Looking forward to the fire in the fireplace and homemade hot chocolate.
