Piercing…

Life is full of joy, love & happiness. Yet, it is also full of sorrow, pain, wrenching heart breaks, tragedy & devastation. Yet, we survive, we move on. As God’s creation we pull it together & make the best of the hells we go through.

We’ve all had them. I’ve had my share of blows in life that have hit me so hard I could not breathe. But there is grace & hope. I am here today a survivor of tragedy in my life- tragedy that may not be as devastating as others but they were rough for me…But I am not here to keep score or compare notes or to argue that my hell was worse than yours or who was blessed more, because no matter what the blessing or devastation it is what it is to us and we all are different. What is joy for me may not be joy for you and I may breakdown long before you do.

But we make it through each experience, good, bad or ugly. We are changed by those experiences. The change could be good, bad or ugly but we are still here… living this life we have been blessed with.

At times we can’t bear to go on, don’t feel blessed…it all depends on our mood, our situations. We all have those times in life that happen to us that knock the breath out of us, we feel we are at the end of our rope…we really just do not know how we will push through it. We just cannot imagine there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Yet, we do, we survive, we strive, we grow stronger from it and if we are lucky we learn from it. Through each experience life brings there is always hope. Hope for things to be better, happier, easier, lighter, shorter, sweeter…..I found some hope and comfort through a song… I love this song. It is one of my all time favorites. The first time I heard it is pierced me in a good way… the song has been a blessing to me through those heart wrenching, painful hurts that life put before me. It reminds me I am not alone even when I may feel like I am.

Held– Natalie Grant

Two months is too little.
They let him go.
They had no sudden healing.
To think that providence would
Take a child from his mother while she prays
Is appalling.

Who told us we’d be rescued?
What has changed and why should we be saved from nightmares?
We’re asking why this happens
To us who have died to live?
It’s unfair.

Chorus:
This is what it means to be held.
How it feels when the sacred is torn from your life
And you survive.
This is what it is to be loved.
And to know that the promise was
When everything fell we’d be held.

This hand is bitterness.
‘We want to taste it, let the hatred numb our sorrows.
The wise hands opens slowly to lilies of the valley and tomorrow.

(Chorus)
This is what it means to be held.
How it feels when the sacred is torn from your life
And you survive.
This is what it is to be loved.
And to know that the promise was
When everything fell we’d be held.

Bridge:
If hope is born of suffering.
If this is only the beginning.
Can we not wait for one hour watching for our Savior?

(Chorus)
This is what it means to be held.
How it feels when the sacred is torn from your life
And you survive.
This is what it is to be loved.
And to know that the promise was
When everything fell we’d be held.
